Postcard Marketing Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why isn’t postage included in the cost?
Postage varies depending on the class of mail (first-class or standard), size of mail (postcard category is defined as 4.25” x 6”, anything larger than that defaults to the letter category) and sort level (mail that is going to same 5-digit zip will qualify for a lower rate than mail sent across the country). We will provide you with an exact postage amount when we process your list; however, you can use the following chart to estimate your postage:

Q.What if I don’t have a mailing permit?
Any business or nonprofit organization can send their mailing using our permit at no additional charge. We can add it to your artwork or you can place it yourself before uploading your files.

Q. Do you provide direct mail services other than postcard mailings?
Yes. We regularly work with clients on direct mail projects that utilize different self-mailer formats or envelopes. Call us at 781-344-2650 or go to www.rivkind.com/requestproposal.

Q. Can I use the Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) postage rates?
EDDM allows businesses to mail at lower than normal postage rates, however you must mail to complete carrier routes. If you have a product or service that appeals to most people within a certain geographic area this might be a good choice (i.e. pizza shop, dry cleaner, salon). If EDDM makes sense for your business we can certainly mail it for you with that service. In many cases, you will be better served by identifying your best prospects and only mailing to those people. The higher postage rate will be offset by the lower quantity.

Q. Should I include a QR code on my postcard?
The answer is “maybe”. If you have a good application for it and the proper amount of space on your postcard then a QR code is a great idea. Codes that take people to landing pages optimized for mobile viewing, videos of testimonials or product demonstrations or coupons that the recipient can redeem by showing the image on their phone are just a few ways QR codes can increase the effectiveness of your postcard. Important tip: Test the QR code on multiple mobile devices before using it on a live mailing.
